It really works, it’s easy to use, and adults can decide for themselves when filtering is appropriate, and at what level. TVGuardian uses a patented process designed to detect profanity and other offensive phrases, mute the audio and modify the incoming closed captioned signal. The process consists of monitoring the closed captioned signal found on most videos and DVDs (not home movies) and checking each captioned word against a dictionary of foul words stored in TVGuardian. If an inappropriate word or phrase is detected, the audio is muted, the offensive word is removed from the closed captioned signal, and a suitable word is substituted, when appropriate. If selected, TVGuardian can be set to: just mute the foul phrases, and not display the substitute phrases; display the substitute phrases only during the mute of offensive phrases, or; display continuous profanity-free captioning for the hearing impaired. Users can choose between two different filter modes. Strict Mode even filters out exclamatory uses of the name of God, Jesus and Christ. Moderate Mode allows these words to be heard — particularly desirable when the DVD being watched features religious content. Definte OK on this – S. Terry –
The system is definitely OK. The major hang ups are stated in most reviews; the time it takes to switch cds/dvds is pretty long and I have the same problem on my 3 yr old system regarding it not reading discs. The sound quality is very nice though. I am looking at the HT700 system next, but I want to find out about the lens/motor problem with my HT70 first.

We had this system for 5 years with not a lot of usage on it and it finally broke. The interface between the remote control and the main unit stopped working. I have tried new batteries and none of the functions on the remote works. Out of all the Japanese brands electronics I own at home, Panasonic has the least reliability and quality. I have never had any problems with my Sony, Toshiba, Sharp and Sanyo electronics. In the last 8 years, my Panasonic VCR broke, The DVD/VCR Home Theater broke, and my 50 Discs Stereo Changer broke. All of the other Japanese Electronics in the household are still functional. My last Panasonic finally broke and I will no longer purchase another Panasonic ever again.
